  2. Thanks Gary, I use backing board card which I get from my framing supplier. I guess any thick acid free card would do. The gesso I use is an acrylic gesso which you can buy from any art supplier. I apply three coats which gives a nice surface for painting. You can rough up the surface to provide texture or use a fine sandpaper to smooth the surface depending on your preference. The advantage of this support for painting is basically ease of making and weight if you are painting outdoors. Paul.
