Near Tarnbrook, Forest of Bowland
Oil on board, 8"x10"
This was the scene I referred to in an earlier post when I was painting in Tarnbrook a while ago. I was able to make a good start before I was rained off and finally got round to finishing it this afternoon.

From Whitbarrow
Oil on gessoed card,  6"x8"
Done on location. I had a bit more time last thursday evening after work when I painted this. I parked up at Witherslack school and walked to the top via the narrow footpath which traverses the steep slope. This is the view looking north west up the Winster valley to the Cumbrian fells beyond. While it was breezy on the top, the relentless wind seems to have abated at least for a while.

From Arnside Knott
Oil on gessoed card,  6"x8"

A quick sketch from Arnside Knott this evening after work. The wind was blowing and getting more blustery as I worked. I was expecting rain but it held off. There were some superb effects of light which came and went far too quickly for me to capture. This is a hilltop which overlooks the river Kent estuary out to Morecambe Bay and gets fantastic evening light.
Looking at the painting again this evening I feel it needs more work separating the elements. However I'm not going to mess around with it. I achieved what I set out to do which was to explore the scene as a composition. I think this place has a lot of potential and is a site I can get to easily. I'll be back!
